The influence of a nonlinear spring and nonlinearity in exchange integrals on solitary excitations in molecular chains are theoretically investigated in the presence of intramolecular vibrations. In particular, we limit ourselves to a cubic anharmonic term which we can solve exactly if we go to the continuum limit. It has been shown that the anharmonic effect leads to a system of coupled ℬoussinesq (ℬq) and nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations allowing four types of soliton solutions. The parameters of the solitary excitations (length, energy) are calculated. These coupled soliton solutions are used to elucidate the molecular mechanism of muscle contraction. The nonlinearity in the exchange integrals results in a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with saturable nonlinearity admitting stable solitions in higher dimensional models.
