The availability of portable water continues to be a major challenge in many parts of the world and the rural community of Nkoteng in Cameroon is no exception. In this community, challenges associated with access to safe drinking water are mostly due to problems of surface water contamination and pollution. Consequently, deep groundwater within the fractured basement rock should be a relatively cleaner and safer option for domestic use. The Society of Exploration Geophysicists – Geoscientists Without Borders program funded this project with the goal to use geoscience tools to investigate fault–zone aquifers, the water quality of existing water sources in the project community, and to mentor students in applied geoscience field experiences.
