Inset-fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna is performed using parallel-plate waveguide model. Quasi-Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) modes approximation is presented and validated to establish the electromagnetic field distribution susceptible to be supported by the guided structure modelling the considered antenna. Input impedance calculation based on the electromagnetic theory in travelling-wave in conjunction with the field distribution elaborated in quasi-TEM mode approximation is carried out. Magnetostatic approach solution is used to analyse electric field radiation properties of the proposed antenna. Some relevant antenna performances such as impedance bandwidth of 21%, gain of 7dB and half power beam-width of 100∘ have been achieved and good agreement with the theoretic predictions has been illustrated.
