Asparagus drepanophyllus Welw. ex Baker, is widely used for its medicinal properties. As part of efforts to promote the use of medicinal plants in Cameroon, a study was conducted in the locality of Nkolondom, Mfoudi Department, Central Region. The objective was to characterize its natural habitat in order to contribute to a better understanding of its ecology. To this end, pH was determined by direct reading with a pH meter of soil samples taken at a depth of 30 cm, followed by a floristic inventory consisting of compiling a quantitative and qualitative list of plant species. The results of this study showed that: in the study area, the soil was acidic with an average pH of 4.85; A. drepanophyllus had an absolute abundance of 352 plants/ha (relative abundance: 11%). 93 species distributed among 86 genera and 48 families were recorded; the herbaceous layer represented 86% of the vegetation with a Shannon diversity index of 3.65 bits, compared to 14% for the tree and shrub layer, with a Shannon diversity index of 0.97 bits. This work provides a basis for the domestication of A. drepanophyllus, with a view to the development of standardized phytomedicines.
